Want Freedom of Speech? Here's your chance.

There has been a lot of debate already this year about the town budget. Some hot spots have been the level of service for police and fire department, funding of social service agencies, recreation funding at the GRCC and Black Mountain and how to improve the political climate in our town. I’m hoping for respectful free flowing debate.

Another site run by Kevin Saisi.

Kevin has nothing to do with this site although he is welcome to post on it. Please don’t jump to conclusions. This site was started simply to give voice to the people. One web site should not be able to control the electronic flow of information in town. This town belongs to all the residents, not a select few.

If we want any more growth we need to keep our infrastructure in place. I we continue to allow un educated people to hack our public services down we the citizens are going to be in big trouble. I hope this year the polls are packed with people that are sick and tired of the crap in town. Lets take back our town and get back to business. Vote for Buccina and Cameron!

Name calling on this blog doesn't differentiate it much from the other local electronic media.

Perhaps the whole post shouldn't be removed but any offending words
removed with an admin note "edited for content"... just a suggestion...

Sometimes the whole post is a personal attack. Not a civil exchange of ideas.

I’m not sure it is within my power to edit someone’s comment on this site and even if it were possible, I’m not sure it’s ethical. It could completely change the message without intending to. I think editing others comments may take us all down a slippery slope that we don’t want to be on.

I guess if someone wants to get their message across, they will have to do it using non-abusive language.

Lol, simple rules:
If you can't play nice you can't play at all.

Is there a way for the reader to suggest removal of a post? I'm sure you can't monitor this site 24/7 and the above post has been on here for a while. Guess they don't like the fact that this isn't an open forum for name calling and back stabbing !!!!

You’re right; we can’t monitor the site 24/7. That post had been on there since 1:00 today, which left it there for 5 hours. There was a similar post like that yesterday that I deleted as well. I’m sure the person posting would be happy to disrupt the site any way they can. All I can think is they are either mean spirited or are just threatened by a site that doesn’t let them control everything in town. My best guess is the latter of the two.

The only thing we can do is approve comments before they are seen on the site. We’re working on some other things that might allow some different sanctions for someone behaving that way. Until then, this may slow communication a bit, but don’t let it stop it. We’ll be as vigilante and timely as we can.

Thanks to all the decent people out there trying to make the town better rather than damage it.

I would not want stop coming here to get good open minded opinions because of a few that feel they want to put a black mark on something that someone is trying to do for the good of all. Your site is, once again, refreshing and I look forward to coming in and seeing that people are trying to make a diffrence in a positive way.
I might add an observation that I have made over the last few weeks. It seems as though the terrible blogging that was being done on certain articles in the SJ has twindled quite a bit. Articles that would have in the past started quite a bit of "crap" don't seem to be going that route now. Perhaps people looked back at that and realized that it did more harm then good. I think there are very few out there that really want to be hurtful and hateful. I also believe those that really like to be involved in that kind of slamming perhaps aren't very happy with themselves either. Just my opinion!
