More Information on the Rumford Fire Department.

The Rumford Fire Department but has been getting steadily cut. The RFP believes members of our community should be aware of the following information:

For fiscal year 06-07 the Department budget was $977,000.
For fiscal year 07-08 the Department budget was reduced to $900,000, a $77,000 cut.

This year the Selectmen recommended $799,000, a $101,000 cut which will cut 3 positions that are currently not filled.

The Finance Committee recommended $707,000, a $193,000 cut which we will cut 5 positions, 3 which are currently vacant and 2 firefighters that are currently employed.

From The Rumford Reporter (Submitted by TRR Staff at 6/11/2008 01:39:00 AM ): Members of the Union then moved to the high school driveway where several firefighters, who were on duty that night, helped pass out the union flyers to taxpayers as they arrived for the Annual Town Business Meeting.

Is this a lie or not? Anyone?

TRR lied on their site??? I'm shocked!

TRR has been very critical of the RFD and other agencies of the Town of Rumford over the last three or four months. In my opinion, TRR has made some very serious, libelous and/or slanderous allegations. If these allegations can be proved true, the Rumford Board of Selectmen should take immediate, disciplinary and/or legal action against the offenders. If these allegations can be proved false, the Rumford Board of selectmen should publicly denounce TRR.

Why would the selectmen denounce The Rumford Distorter? The Distorter supports three of them.

Why? It's their duty. The many allegations made by The Rumford Reporter are serious. In the absence of a town manager, the Rumford Board of Selectmen (including the three the The Rumford Reporter supports) is legally, morally, and ethically obligated to investigate these allegations. If the allegations are proved true, immediate disciplinary and/or legal action MUST be taken. If the allegations are proved false, the Rumford Board of Selectmen MUST publicly denounce The Rumford Reporter and take whatever legal action possible against “them”. If the Rumford Board of Selectmen does nothing, the entire board should be recalled for dereliction of duty.

I can tell you first hand at least 2 of the selectmen are also at fault for the same reason. They provide the info for TRR and also make statements in public meetings and in editorials that are false but they always walk away with clean hands.

It is dificult to tell if a firefighter is on duty. They often wear their sweatshirts with the fire logo when off duty. Anything they say or do while wearing the logo can be considered to be representing the department by the public.

If it is difficult to tell if a firefighter is "on duty", wouldn't it be prudent to verify before one publishes statements such as "Members of the Union then moved to the high school driveway where several firefighters, who were on duty that night, helped pass out the union flyers to taxpayers as they arrived for the Annual Town Business Meeting? Wearing sweatshirts with the fire logo when off duty shows pride in what they do.

I agree "T". The 2 guys that night where off duty, one in a dress shirt and I believe one had a Rumford Fire shirt on that anyone may purchase a E & E awards.

We actually have Rules and Regulations that state what is on duty wear.
