Why not Madigan?

The town of Rumford is looking for an interim town manager, just to fill in until the vote on the Charter amendment to see if the town is in favor of allowing us to share a town manager with Mexico. If that is the case, why not ask John Madigan to fill in while we wait. Does the Charter prohibit from hiring John on an interim basis? It just seems to make sense to have the man that all five selectmen supported for the position to get a head start on managing town events.

I just don't understand how we can even consider the office of town managern as a part-time position. Though Mr. Madigan might surely be an asset to Rumford, his job as town manager of Mexico also includes the duties of tax collector and welfare director of that town. How can one person perform well when burdened with so many duties and responsibilities? Seems to me we might be stepping into deep waters.

The town charter has no mention of an interim town manager, however, Mr. Carey said it can't be done according to the charter. It is beginning to sound like a conflict of interest, and perhaps, The town should seek a second, non-biased legal opinion.

John Madigan is a hard working man. he has done a good job of turning around Mexico's financial situation. He also is well respected in the community. However, our town needs a FULL TIME leader. With all of his talents, Mr. Madigan is no superman, and cannot run the two towns at the same time. He did a fine job in Dixfield, but Rumford is a much larger town and the center of this economic area. We have many more committees and departments, and have much more for a town manager to do. If we want to stay a stagnant community, we can "get-by" with a part time professional, but if we want to get anything done, we need a full time 40+ hour a week visionary.

Did anyone else notice that Len Greany's appointment violated the Charter? Didn't they ask Doar to stay on for 2 more days because the Charter required the Town Manager to be appointed by the second Thursday of June. When was Len appointed? Who do the rules apply to, anyway?
